Many people just go to work to earn a living. Few get the chance to do their dream job.

For Madelein Fourie (35) her dream did not realise overnight. “I think I got to where I am at now, by the grace of God and many blessings,” she says humbly.

Like most people who live their dream, she worked hard, kept on believing and stayed dedicated to the goal.

“I started working directly after school,” she remembers. “My first job was at a law firm. After that, I worked for quite some time at an airport. From reception to doing the books, working with aeroplane parts and even store manager.”

Little did she know these roles were just preparing her for the dream job.

She then started working in accounting full-time. But, in the back of her head, she was always thinking of doing something creative and being involved with something beautiful. She started helping out Maryke and Ben at Silver Star Events and Décor Hire with setups whenever she could.

And when the time came for Silver Star to expand, Madelein was the obvious choice.

“My greatest dream came true when they offered me a position,” she says. “I have always wanted to work in this industry.”

It is a very demanding job with Madelein doing a bit of everything – accounting, quotes, setups and -downs and party planning. “Mostly I think my role is to help lighten the responsibilities of the business. But everyone at Silver Star does whatever is needed for the team that day. We are like a small family working together.”

Even though the job is hard work, it is still her dream job.

“There is really never a dull moment,” she explains. “My mind and body are challenged every day. But it is wonderful to be able to create a function from an empty venue and couple of décor items. We are making memories for people every day. That warm feeling of pride when a client is completely satisfied with what we did, is the best!”

When she is not making memories for clients, she loves making her own memories with her husband and dog. Or next to a fire in the bush, just connecting with close friends.

Her big treat, however, is a spa day with girlfriends topped off with some prawns. “Oh, my goodness, it is so delicious!”.

Madelein truly lives the most valuable lesson she’s learnt in life. “Be humble. Be thankful and be yourself.”
