In modern times you are very lucky when the people you spend most of your time with – your colleagues – become like family to you.

Happy Sibiya (41) says the best part of her job at Silver Star Events and Décor Hire is working with a wonderful team that has respect for each other. Like a family.

“I love helping where I can to make the workplace an enjoyable environment for everyone,” she says. “In general, I like to be friendly with everyone. I like helping people and seeing them happy.”

She is officially responsible for all the cleaning and ironing of the linen, as well as making sure every item that goes out for hire is in a spotless condition.

Happy was working at Femina Hospital in Pretoria as a cleaner when someone noticed her skills and recommended her for a job at Silver Star. She honed her set of skills over the years by first working as a chef in a private household and later Super Schwarma, and then moving into a position as a cashier at Super Spar. She also spent some time working in merchandising.

“God has always looked after me,” she says of her life. “I grew up in Gemsbokspruit in Mpumalanga and it is my favourite place in the world because my family is there. I love spending time with them.

“Family is the most important thing in life.”
